Every autumn, three nights arrive one after the other, and it is easy to lump them together. They are not the same. Halloween is playful and a little mischievous. Todos los Santos is quiet and devotional. Día de Muertos is joyful and full of memory. Each one deserves its own light.

October 31: Halloween, la Noche Mística

Halloween grew out of ancient harvest festivals that marked the turn from the bright half of the year to the dark half, a night when the veil between worlds was believed to be thin. Today it is costumes, candy, and carved pumpkins, but the old mood is still there under the surface: a night to play with mystery and step a little outside yourself.

The Noche Mística Halloween candle is made for that feeling. Light it while you get ready, while the trick-or-treaters come and go, or late, when the house goes quiet and the night feels a little bigger than usual.

November 1: Todos los Santos, la Luz Eterna

All Saints' Day is the most reflective of the three. Across Puerto Rico, Spain, Mexico, and the Philippines, families visit cemeteries, clean the graves of their loved ones, leave flowers, and light candles that burn through the night. It is a day for the saints, known and unknown, and for the quiet certainty that the ones who came before us are still watching over us.

The Luz Eterna Todos los Santos candle is meant to be lit in that spirit. Set it near a photograph, say a name out loud, and let it burn for a while in the evening.

November 2: Día de Muertos

Día de Muertos is not a sad day. It is a homecoming. Families build an ofrenda with marigolds, papel picado, sugar skulls, the favorite foods and drinks of the people they are remembering, and rows of candles to light the way home. The belief is that on this night the dead return to visit, and they should find the house ready for them, full of the things they loved.

The Día de Muertos candle belongs on the ofrenda, or on a shelf with a photo if you keep it simpler. Either way, the point is the same: to remember out loud, with warmth, not grief.

Setting a simple altar at home

You do not need a large space. A corner of a table works.

  1. Lay down a cloth. White or bright colors are traditional.
  2. Place photographs of the people you are remembering.
  3. Add something they loved: a coffee cup, a favorite candy, a small glass of their drink.
  4. Add marigolds or any bright flowers.
  5. Light your candles on a heat-safe surface, away from the flowers, cloth, and paper. Never leave them unattended, and snuff them before bed.

If you want all three nights covered, the Seasonal Candle Bundle brings Noche Mística, Luz Eterna, and Día de Muertos together in one set. Pair them with the Recuerdo candle for any night of the year when someone is on your mind.

The spirit of mucho mucho amor is that the people we love never truly leave us. These three nights are a chance to act like it.

Tres noches, tres velas
